A Game of 2 halves sees a Noosa triumphant in the 1st derby of 2012

Coolum FC players and supporters had mixed emotions after their derby game at Noosa. CFC played good football for 45 minutes only and went into half time with a 2-1 lead. After Noosa’s opening goal Ole Sandvand scored twice (after Scott Unterrheiner’s and Simon Gerbic’s assist). His first goal came after a short dribbling-finishing effort, while our team captain’s second goal was a 7 meter header just before the break.

The second half brought up a very different scenario. Noosa’s accurate long balls from their player coach Kevin A’Hern-Evens payed off early as Michael Williams headed the ball in the net. Substitute Aaron Waters changed the game for Noosa and turned back the result again (3-2). The home side took over the control of the game and managed to score two more by Daniel Upton, while the Coolum boys could walk away with some positive experience and their aim is to extend their first half performance from now.

CFC Reserve side managed to win their derby against Noosa Reserves (2-1), goal scorers: Gavin Dobbs and Josh Aubry. Our Reserve side sitting on the 3rd place one week before the first round of the three round-robin league season.

At the Reserves’ game Zac McKean had a head clash with the home side’s goalkeeper Phil Townsend, causing our player to fall hard on his back and loose consciousness. Phil straight away assisted him with the right first aid skills and he looked after Zac while the ambulance took him to the hospital.

After examinations and a CT scan Zac McKean got all cleared and everyone who witnessed the scary situation felt the relief.

The Coolum Football Club would like to express their gratitude to Phil for his fast and calm action and the Noosa Lions FC for their great help.

Reserves and Prem Sides go down to Buderim!

Coolum FC played a very “unorthodox” game at Buderim against the unbeaten ladder leaders.
CFC scored in the 2nd minute by captain Ole Sandvand and controlled the game in the first 30 minutes. Buderim climbed back because of a series of accidental situations: they found a goal after a ball crossed in the penalty box, they were wrongly awarded a close range free kick, which they exchanged for another goal and on the top of it they used a chance when our goalkeeper Yoel Jogiono’s only mistake when he gave away a ball…

Football is an unfair sport, to a team which tried to play football and walked off at half time with two goals behind…
In the second half Coolum closed down the gap after Josh Phelp’s 13 meter half volley bomb and Coolum were unlucky to miss a couple of chances to equalise. CFC had to gamble and press high up on the field, while Buderim were happy to sit back and count on counter attacks, which resulted with two more goals at the very end of the game for the home side.

“I don’t remember any other game in my past experiences when my team were the better side in 99 out of 100 aspects of the game, but failed to indicate it on the scoreboard – said Gabor Ganczer Coolum FC’s head coach. – I won’t detour my team from our way, we keep playing our football regardless what other teams choose to do when they call themselves a footballing side… Life and football will pay back our unbanked checks in the future and we keep investing.”

CFC’s Reserve team was also 2-0 up against Buderim Reserves, but they lost 4-2, Gavin Dobbs and Nick Skinner scored Coolum’s goals. Gavin turned on the 18yd box and buried a cracker, and Skinner receiving a lovely through ball, calmly placed it through the keepers legs for an easy goal. Buderim got 2 easy goals from basic Coolum errors, and carried on from there with the pressure against a Coolum side struggling to overcome their frustrations.

Pressure too much from Hungry Mdorians!

Coolum FC counts four wins in the Sunshine Coast Football Premier League, but before the Easter weekend our team has conceded its second defeat against Maroochydore.

The last year’s Premiership winner Swans arrived to Coolum with a huge hunger as they started slow this year. Maroochydore’s team hasn’t changed in the last two-three years and they are able to field a very matured and well clicking side on their better night of the two and no doubt about it last Wednesday was one of those nights.

Even though Coolum was sitting on second spot, our young team isn’t consistent and sharp enough yet at each of our games which is a natural stage in a team building process. Maroochydore pressed hard and worked tirelessly for each ball and they found their luck after a corner kick and scored after a header (0-1). Just before half time the visitors earned a questionable penalty and doubled their lead (0-2).

Coolum played a lot more of a focused game in the second half and created a few chances, while the Blues were happy enough to count on counter attacks. Coolum was forced to reorganise its defense line three times because of injuries, but the team looked more stable and capable. Both teams scored once in the second period (1-3): CFC’s goal came from Sam Heideman who scored his forth goal at his forth game.

Coolum Reserve team lost 3-1 to Maroochydore Reserves at a top of the table clash, our goal scorer was Nick Skinner.

SC Premier League Matchbook
Coolum FC – Maroochydore FC 1-3 (0-2)
G: Sam Heideman (80′)
